Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to the chief of the president's office, told how the agreement on Ukraine's international security guarantees will be implemented. According to him, it is proposed to hold bilateral talks on the status of Crimea and Sevastopol for 15 years.
Podoliak stated this at a briefing on the results of the first round of talks with Russia in Istanbul, UNIAN reports.
"The implementation of this agreement will be held according to the following procedure: first there will be a referendum in which all citizens of Ukraine will express their position on this agreement and its work. After that there will be ratification in the parliaments of the guarantor countries and the parliament of Ukraine. This is crucial. That is, we need to get the support of society so that the agreement is really consolidating for us," Podoliak explained.
According to the adviser to the chief of the president’s office, the issue of Crimea is a separate clause of the agreement, in which the Ukrainian side proposes to hold bilateral negotiations on the status of Crimea and Sevastopol for 15 years. In other words, it is offered that Ukraine and Russia will not use military or armed forces to resolve the Crimea issue for 15 years while negotiations continue, but will continue their political and diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue.
"As for the territory of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, these issues have been raised in a separate item, which will be discussed in the negotiations between the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia. That is, all disputes have been more or less discussed, our proposals have been made," Podoliak said.
