Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have stopped importing russian gas since April. The corresponding statement of the chairman of the Latvian gas storage operator Conexus Baltic Grid. Uldis Bariss was published by Latvian national news agency LETA.

“If there are still doubts about whether there may be any credibility in supplies from russia, current events clearly show us that there is no trust anymore,” he said.

According to him, russian natural gas has not entered Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania since April 1st. The Baltic market is served by underground reserves from Latvia.

President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda is urging the rest of the EU to join the refusal of gas from russia. "Years ago my country made decisions that today allow us with no pain to break energy ties with the aggressor. If we can do it, the rest of Europe will be able to do it too!"- he said.

Prime Minister Ingrid Shimonite noted that from now on Lithuania will not consume a single cubic meter of toxic russian gas.

A local newspaper wrote about the refusal to import russian gas with reference to the data of the Lithuanian gas transportation system yesterday. As of 02 April, russian gas imports to Lithuania through an interconnector with Belarus were zero.

Now all gas needs of Lithuania are satisfied due to imports through the LNG terminal in Klaipeda. According to calculations, in the future this should be enough.

If necessary, gas can also be pumped from Latvia, and from 1 May – through an interconnector with Poland.

Ukraine calls on the West to abandon the consumption of russian gas and oil. This is necessary so that the occupying power does not have the means to finance the murders of Ukrainians in the war it unleashed.
