russians destroyed about 80% of residential buildings in Izyum in the Kharkiv region.
Deputy Izium City Mayor Volodymyr Matsokin announced this in an interview with Ukrinform.
"And it's not the kind of destruction, when, for example, windows and doors were blown out; no, the entire sections of residential buildings were " folded. "I'm not a soldier; I don't know what weapon could do this. There were schools shellings; there are only walls left, the remains of "boxes" - he said.
Izium has been under enemy blockade since 6 March 2022. Russian troops are constantly shelling and trying to assault the city; they do not allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians.
The mayor's office estimates that between 15,000 and 20,000 people have been blocked in Izium and the nearby municipalities Kamianka, Sukha Kamianka, and Topalske; these people need immediate humanitarian assistance.
"They are suffering from war actions and stay in a hazardous situation," - Matsokin said.
Izium remains the hottest military spot in the Kharkiv region. The Head of the Kharkiv RMA (Region Military Administration), Oleg Syniehubov, says that the enemies are chaotically firing at Izium because they understand that they have already lost the battle for Kharkiv.
"There are battles around Izium now because the enemies have realized that they have already lost the battle for Kharkiv, so they move around Izium to reach Luhansk and Donetsk regions," - he said.
Izium is the third-largest city in the region. As of 2020, the population of Izium was over 46,600 people.
