The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to Viktor Orbán’s statement, whose party wins the elections in Hungary, regarding the "opposition" of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The MFA’s Facebook page states that they respect the will of the Hungarian people, but Orbán has no reason to say that he had to fight the President of Ukraine on his way to victory in the election.

"Firstly, neither Ukraine nor its President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the political campaign in Hungary. Secondly, the President of Ukraine is busy every day with a much more important task – the fight against Russian aggression. The Prime Minister should be grateful to the President Ukraine for the fact that the reality of the war did not reach the Hungarian borders due to the heroism of the Ukrainian people in deterring President Putin's aggressive actions," the Ministry said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that the new mandate would allow the Hungarian government to focus on countering the aggressive policy of the Russian president, who orders the Russian army to commit atrocities against the Ukrainian people. They also hope that the facts of Russian war crimes against civilians, primarily massacres in Bucha, Irpyn and Hostomel, will not go unnoticed.

"We hope that Budapest will clearly condemn these crimes and reconsider its approach to helping Ukraine in line with current realities, the level of security threat from Russia and the level of atrocities committed by the Russian army. Without security in Ukraine, there will be no security in Hungary. Our state is a motherland of many Hungarians, who are an integral part of Ukrainian society and whose identity we highly value. We must work together to bring victory over Russian evil closer and to restore peace for the sake of Ukrainian, Hungarian and other European nations," the MFA added.

According to preliminary estimates, Orbán's party is leading the election for the fourth time in a row. Orbán has already made a statement saying that he had to fight with opponents, including the President of Ukraine.
