The National Gallery in London has renamed the painting of French Impressionist Edgar Degas "Russian Dancers". This was reported by The Guardian.
From now on, the painting is called "Ukrainian Dancers" - this decision was made after a campaign launched by Ukrainians on social media.
Discussions about the correct title of a work of art have been going on for many years. The pastel painting depicts a group of dancers with yellow and blue ribbons woven into their hair.
A spokesperson for the National Gallery said: “The title of this painting has been an ongoing point of discussion for many years and is covered in scholarly literature; however there has been increased focus on it over the past month due to the current situation so therefore we felt it was an appropriate moment to update the painting’s title to better reflect the subject of the painting.”
The day before in the Ukrainian museum in New York the exhibition "War of mushrooms" on the motives of Narbut opened.
