The Saeima of Latvia voted for the offer to make 9 May 2022 the Day of mourning for the Ukrainians, civilians, and defenders of Ukraine, who died because of russia’s aggressive war, informs the European Pravda, relating to Delfi.
61 members of the parliament voted for, while 18 didn’t support the bill. Some members of the parliament from the opposition asked to change the date for this aim.
The approved bill envisages the state flags to fly at half mast on the day of mourning. On the buildings of the government and the parliament as well as on the Presidential Palace the flag of Ukraine will take place nearby. The state-run and local bodies won’t be able to organize entertaining events and fests on this day as permissions will not be available.
Earlier, the Saeima has also approved the amendments that ban the symbols of russian war crimes and military aggression, except in those cases when the aim of their application is not justification and glorification of these crimes at public events. The law covers Z and V symbols as well.
Oleksiy Danylov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, states that russia had regrouped its troops in Ukraine for new attacks and the end of the war with a parade by 9 May.
