The European Union has approved the fifth package of sanctions against russia after evidence of russian atrocities in the Kyiv region.
This was announced by the French authorities of the Council of the EU.
Following the publication of the measures in the Official Journal of the EU, the measures will come into force on Friday.
As expected, the package will include new personal sanctions against russian oligarchs, propagandists, the russian military and security apparatus, and key figures in the industrial and technological sectors.
The EU will also block the assets of a number of russian banks, impose an embargo on supplies of arms and a number of high-tech goods worth about 10bn euros to russia.
EU countries have also approved the introduction of a coal embargo, but the date when it will come into force is still unknown. Earlier, Reuters reported, citing sources, that the EU plans to approve a ban on imports of russian coal, but postpone the entry into force of the embargo for a month.
The embargo will affect a number of other goods and raw materials worth 5.5bn euros annually.
Under the fifth package, russian ships will be banned from entering EU ports and truckers will be banned from entering the EU.
The US Congress today voted in favor of russia's energy embargo and deprivation of its trade privileges.
Earlier, the European Parliament called for an immediate embargo on imports of russian energy into the EU.
