The incumbent French President Emmanuel Macron won the first round of elections on Sunday. This is evidenced by the results of processing 100% of the protocols provided by municipalities, writes ‘European Pravda’ referring to The Figaro.

Macron received 27.6% of the vote, three points more than in the election five years ago.

The second place was taken by the leader of the far-right party ‘National Union’ Marine Le Pen, whom 23.41% of the electorate voted for. She also improved her result by 2 points compared to the previous election.

The third was the left-wing candidate from ‘Unconquered France"’ Jean-Luc Mélenchon with a score of 21.95%, which is more than he expected from the exit polls.

The remaining candidates did not get more than 10%, including another far-right candidate, Éric Zemmour. For some time, the poll predicted him to enter the second round, but he received only 7.05% of the vote.

The second round of the elections, in which Macron and Le Pen will run, will take place on April 24. Most of the candidates, who did not make it to the second round, called for a vote of the incumbent president.

Earlier, Emmanuel Macron declared the readiness of France to become the guarantor of the safety of Ukraine after the end of the war with russia.
