The crash of the plane of the former President of Poland Lech Kaczyński in Smolensk occurred due to an explosion.
The report with this conclusion on investigating the causes of the tragedy was published by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the Investigation, Antoni Macierewicz, Polish Public Television TVP reported.
As Macierewicz noted, two deliberate lies of Russia preceded the tragedy - the change of the airports and the intentional misleading of Polish pilots. And the materials of the investigation, which testify to a reason other than the explosion, were, in fact, manipulative and fabricated.
According to the Chairman of the Committee for the Investigation, Russia has confused the air disaster investigation. And the evidence was intentionally destroyed, damaged, and altered during the time of the government of the Civic Platform-Polish People's Party, which Prime Minister Donald Tusk led.
According to Macierewicz, the cause of the plane crash was an explosion in the plane's left wing, which occurred 100 meters from the birch, with which the presidential board collided. The first explosion resulted in the subsequent explosion in the central section of the air wing, which killed the entire delegation of 96 people. Polish and American agencies investigated the traces of explosives found on the plane's remains.
Five pieces of evidence confirmed the explosions, including the experiments using the Tu-154 plane models.
Over 20 witnesses saw or heard the explosion; according to Macierewicz, his team questioned a total of 200 witnesses during the investigation.
An analysis of the victims' bodies of the tragedy showed that fragments and particles of the plane were found in some of them - such damage is typical for victims of explosions, not collisions with the ground.
According to TVP, at least 47% of the bodies showed signs of burns, although the victims were injured before their clothes were torn off by the explosion, which is another characteristic feature of the blast.
Russian prosecutors concealed the information about the detection of hexogen and TNT. The British laboratory found them in 89 out of 238 analyzed fragments, including those collected from the left wing.
The Chairman of the Committee on the Investigation stated that the presence of aluminum indicated the use of the bomb, which caused a thermobaric explosion created by the thermobaric weapons. Macierewicz noted that the same type of weapons (vacuum bombs) Russia is using in the war in Ukraine.
According to Antoni Macierewicz, on 11 April 2010, on the day of the air disaster, Russian services cut up the plane's remains into pieces to hide the evidence of the explosion and prevent an adequate investigation.
As a result of the Tu-154 plane crash in Smolensk, the president of Poland, Lech Kaczynski, several high-ranking officials of the country, public figures, and clergy representatives were killed - 96 people in total. It was found that the plane crashed due to an explosion of an object on board.
On 24 February 2021 Polish Committee officially declared that Kaczynski’s plane was destroyed by an explosive.
