There is a threat of russia's use of chemical weapons in Mariupol.

This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada Lyudmila Denisova.

"Representatives of the “DPR” occupation administration are already openly threatening to use chemical weapons against the Ukrainian military forces, which are defending at “Azovstal” in Mariupol," Denisova said.

According to the Commissioner for Human Rights, russian propagandists are spreading the statement of one of the leaders of the so-called "People's militia of the DPR" Eduard Basurin that there is no sense in storming the underground fortifications of “Azovstal” in Mariupol. Therefore, it's advisable to close all exits and use chemical weapons.

"The Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction”, ratified by the occupying country in 1997, has established obligations for all states never, under any circumstances, to use chemical weapons and not to conduct any military preparations for the use of chemical weapons. Use of these weapons is a war crime under Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court," Denisova said.

The Ombudsman appealed to the UN Commission of Inquiry into Human Rights Violations during the russian military invasion of Ukraine and to the Expert Mission set up by OSCE member States accordance with the moscow mechanism, so that they take into account this fact of the potential war crime of russia.

The British intelligence reported that there is a high probability that russian troops will use phosphorus munitions in Mariupol.

According to the Mayor’s Advisor Petro Andryushchenko, russia can’t establish control over the port of Mariupol or over the Metallurgical plant. And "all statements and bravura videos are being shot on the conditional outskirts".
