Journalists identify first fatality from Moskva cruiser crew

The Russian Defense Ministry claims that all crew members "survived."

Despite statements by the russian Ministry of Defense that the entire crew of the Russian cruiser Moskva destroyed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine had been evacuated, journalists of the Ukrainian investigative journalist project Schemes identified the first dead crew member. It is 41-year-old Ivan Vakhrushev from Udmurtia.

He served in the Fifth Combat Unit, responsible for Moskva's operational security. Vakhrushev comes from the village of Nichkino, Sarapul district, the Udmurt Republic of the Russian Federation.

However, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation claims that all crew members "survived."

"Schemes" found a post on social media by Varvara Vakhrusheva, in which she reported that her husband had died while "performing his duties." She posted a photo of a man dressed in an officer's uniform of the Russian Navy with a midshipman's insignia.

She confirmed that her husband died due to the sinking of the cruiser Moskva. The circumstances of Vakhrushev's death were not communicated to his wife. "His body was found. I was told on Thursday, April 14, said Vakhrusheva.

On April 13, the missile cruiser Moskva was damaged by Neptune anti-ship cruise missiles fired by Ukrainian defenders.
