Latvia has donated 100,000 euros to the International Criminal Court to support its investigation into Russia's war crimes in Ukraine, reports Delfi. The proposal was made by the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Justice of Latvia Janis Bordans.

He called on other countries to support the ICC's call for voluntary contributions from member states and the deployment of national experts to punish war criminals and end russian aggression in Ukraine rapidly.

The International Criminal Court investigates and, if necessary, prosecutes those accused of the most serious crimes: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity. On February 28, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan initiated an investigation into russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier, in March, the ICC, at the request of 42 countries, announced the launch of an investigation into russia's war crimes in Ukraine. Kyiv will demand the most severe punishment in international courts for russian service members involved in war crimes, up to life imprisonment.
