The United States believes that Ukraine can win the war against Russia with "the right weapons and proper support."
This was stated by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin after a visit to Ukraine, CNN reported.
"In terms of their ability to win, the first step to victory is the belief that you can win. And so they believe they can win. We believe that they can win if they have the right weapons, the right support, and we will do our best and continue to do our best," - told Austin to reporters.
"So (Ukrainians) need long-term means. You heard them expressing their need for tanks. And we are doing our best to provide them with those types of support, types of artillery and ammunition that will be effective at this stage of the war," - said Austin, reminding that the United States, as part of the $800 million aid package, transmits 155-millimeter howitzers and hundreds of thousands of artillery shells to Ukraine.
The U.S. Secretary of Defense also added that he saw "signs" that "many countries are going to speak up and provide additional ammunition and howitzers."
According to the Head of the Office of the President Andrii Yermak, during the visit, an agreement was reached on additional military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 322 million dollars.
