It is very important now that the U.S.Congress recognize russia’s military crimes on the territory of Ukraine as genocide. The Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Makarova said it in an exclusive interview for LB.ua. At the same time, she said that nowadays Kyiv works actively for the Holodomor to be also recognized by the USA as genocide.
“Our Verkhovna Rada has appealed to colleagues around the world. Genocide is exactly what russia is doing in Ukraine now; it is exactly what russia was doing during the Holodomor; it is exactly what russia was doing more than once in previous centuries in Ukraine,” Markarova said.
According to the diplomat, recognizing russia as the country having committed genocide would make a cooperation with the rf impossible. Therefore, Ukraine requests the United States to recognize Russia as the state sponsor of terrorism.
“We are asking the United States also to recognize russia as the state-sponsor of terrorism. Such status makes it much easier, if not automatically includes, imposing certain sanctions and restrictions,” the Ambassador states.
She says that it is very important for all future litigations in international courts.
“Because there should be no place left on our planet where russians will feel comfortable or safe after what they are doing now,” Markarova said.
Earlier, the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament unanimously supported a resolution to recognize the rf’s actions in Ukraine as genocide.
