Hungary continues to block the European Union's proposal to ban Russian oil imports, delaying the entire sixth package of sanctions. This is reported by Bloomberg.

Citing its own sources, the publication writes that the meeting of 27 EU ambassadors, which took place on Sunday, ended without an agreement.

As noted earlier, the EU suggests Hungary and Slovakia delay the implementation of oil embargo sanctions until the end of 2024, and the Czech Republic – until June of the same year due to their strong dependence on russian oil. But Hungary did not agree to these conditions and continued to block the plan.

"The EU insisted that the sanctions were adopted before russia's 9 May Victory Day, in honor of the end of World War II,” the newspaper notes.

Negotiations are expected to resume in the coming days.

Within the sixth package of sanctions, the European Union proposes disconnecting Sberbank, a key russian bank, from SWIFT and gradually introducing an oil embargo, which requires the consent of all 27 EU member states. Restrictions will also be imposed on three russian broadcasters in Europe.
