The US Senate has registered a resolution recognizing russia as a sponsor of terrorism. The co-authors of the document are senators from both parties, Democrat Richard Blumenthal and Republican Lindsey Graham, according to Voice of America.

The resolution states that the Senate considers the actions of the russian government chaired by Vladimir Putin to be acts of terrorism and calls on the US Secretary of State to recognize russia as a state that sponsors terrorism.

"This recognition [sponsor of terrorism - ed.] will be important in US law. There are only four countries that have such recognition: Cuba, Syria, Iran and North Korea. We are trying to include russia in this list so that it is fifth. This is a company with which it [russia] should be associated. These are totalitarian regimes, and they do not bring good," the resolution co-author, Republican Senator from the Republican Party Lindsey Graham said during its presentation.

"For 20 years, he [Putin - ed.] avoided responsibility for the murders. So now is the time to recognize him as the term corresponds to his actions. He is a terrorist. And russia is in the hands of a terrorist state ruled by Putin," said Senator Lindsey Graham.

In an interview with LB.ua, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova stressed the importance of the US Congress recognizing russia's war crimes in Ukraine as genocide. The Verkhovna Rada appealed to colleagues around the world accordingly.

Earlier, the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament unanimously supported the resolution recognizing russia's actions in Ukraine as genocide.
