The ANSA news agency reported that pro-russian hackers attacked the websites of several Italian institutions, including the Senate. A group of "Killnet" hackers took responsibility for this, - reported by the Voice of America.

The National Institute of Health (ISS) and the Automobile Club d'Italia, the national drivers' association were also attacked, a source in Italy's cybersecurity agency told Reuters.

Police said they had launched an investigation.

Since russia's invasion of Ukraine, many Western governments have raised concerns about possible cyber attacks on IT systems and infrastructure. In late March, the Italian railway company Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) temporarily suspended some ticketing services for fear of being cyberattacked. In April, the environment ministry said it had been forced to shut down all its IT systems due to external threats.

The day before, the Starlink satellite network suffered massive cyberattacks. According to Elon Musk, the attacks were done by russian hackers.

On May 1, russian hackers attacked the websites of Moldova government agencies, and on May 9, they tried to carry out cyber attacks on the websites of German government agencies.
