The U.S. House of Representatives backed a bill providing for additional $39.8 billion of aid to Ukraine. A total of 368 members of the lower house of Congress voted in favour of the bill, while 57 voted against it.
According to Reuters, all of the votes against it came from the Republicans.
The support of seven billion more than Joe Biden's administration requested was approved. The Democratic congressmen requested a larger amount.
The military aid makes 23.4 billion dollars, the rest is for the humanitarian and economic aid.
The document now goes to the Senate for another vote, followed by Biden's signature.
Three days ago, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that Ukraine will receive up to 150 million dollars in aid. The aid package includes 25,000 155-mm artillery shells, three AN/TPQ-36 anti-aircraft systems, as well as electronic equipment for eleminating obstacles and spare parts for equipment.
On May 9, US President Joe Biden signed the Lend-Lease and Protect Democracy Act in Ukraine.
