Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andrii Melnyk said that Ukrainians hoped to hear from Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz at the World Economic Forum in Davos, what "concrete steps the coalition will take to provide mass support for Ukraine to win this war, but this did not happen."
In the interview with Bild, the diplomat noted that instead, Scholz announced a report that was not subject to discussion, especially in terms of the immediate delivery of heavy weapons to suppress the massive enemy offensive in the Donbas.
"In the military plan, Berlin is just letting Ukraine down," - the ambassador said.
Melnyk suggested that the German authorities lacked leadership and courage.
He also noted that Scholz did not give any encouraging signals about granting the status of a candidate to the EU.
At a forum in Davos, Scholz in a speech called the russian president an imperialist and said that the world could not allow him to win. He did not mention the supply of such expected heavy weapons.
According to German media, the first promised by Germany anti-aircraft self-propelled artillery installations "Cheetah" Ukrainians will receive in July. The government approved the transfer of these installations on April 25. However, there is a problem with ammunition. The federal government has known about the lack of ammunition for them since the end of February. Already on the second day of the full-scale war, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann said that it could deliver Ukraine equipment from a warehouse that can be relatively quickly brought to combat readiness. However, Germany refused to supply because of the lack of ammunition. They are produced by the Swiss company Oerlikon, which is part of the German group Rheinmetall. Swiss neutrality does not allow supplying ammunition to the combat areas.
However, Germany has supplied Ukraine with some non-lethal weapons, for example, howitzers. The Germans also train our military to work with them.
