The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine thanked the EU for the sixth package of sanctions against russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine welcomes the approval by the European Council of the sixth package of EU sanctions against the russian federation, which includes an important decision to impose an embargo on the purchase of russian oil, reports the press service of the Foreign Ministry.

"Ukraine has worked at all levels to make the sixth sanctions package a reality ... The oil embargo will speed up the countdown to the collapse of the russian economy and the military machine," said Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

The Foreign Ministry also said that they were disappointed that due to Hungary's resistance to the oil embargo, its approval was delayed and left an exception for turbocharged supplies. At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine welcomes the efforts of partners, first of all the leadership of the European Council and the European Commission, which allowed to make these critical decisions.

"We expect that by the end of 2022 russia will lose up to 90% of its oil exports to Europe. This means that russia's military machine will not receive tens of billions of dollars for the war against Ukraine. Deciding on an oil embargo, but also strengthen its energy security," the statement said.

As reported, the sixth package also includes important sanctions that Ukraine has long insisted on: disconnecting Sberbank from SWIFT, banning the broadcasting of three russian TV channels and individual sanctions against russian individuals and legal entities involved in war crimes in Ukraine.

"Ukraine's Foreign Ministry calls on the EU to immediately begin work on the preparation of the seventh package of sanctions against russia, which will include a ban on other russian exports and other restrictive measures. The Ukrainian side has already submitted proposals," the Foreign Ministry said.
