Poland supports Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO, and will make efforts to obtain Ukraine’s candidate status for EU membership this month.

This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal following intergovernmental consultations in Kyiv.

"We have agreed to strengthen defence cooperation, develop the Polish-Ukrainian-British alliance and work to strengthen sanctions against russia. We have agreed to increase cross-border cooperation between Ukraine and Poland. Poland has promised to support Ukraine in obtaining a visa-free regime or acceding to the Convention on Common Transit. Our Polish partners have also confirmed their readiness to take part in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine also noted that a Joint Declaration of the Ministers of Internal Affairs of Poland and Ukraine was signed today, in particular on cooperation at the level of border services.

In addition, a Memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Ministries of Energy, which should promote the independence of Ukraine and Poland from russian energy resources.

Ukraine and Poland plan to set up a joint defence enterprise to manufacture weapons and military equipment.
