The Minister of National Defense of Poland Mariusz Blaszczak symbolically opened the construction of a warehouse in Powidz, Polish Radio informs.
It will be co-financed by NATO and the United States. The warehouse will be used by the US battle group.
The head of the Defense Ministry said that the future warehouse is located near the warehouse complex of combat vehicles, the construction of which will be completed this year.
“Thanks to this, it will be possible to equip the brigade battle group in a short time. The idea of this and previous investments is to create conditions for Allied troops, especially the United States, could receive combat equipment in a very short time. So that in a crisis situation they can really support the Polish Army," Blaszczak said.
US Ambassador Mark Brzezinski, who was present at the ceremony, stressed that his country is loyal to Poland. He added that thanks to the current investment in defense, it will be possible to make better use of American troops, which are deployed on a rotating basis in Poland.
"America and Poland have never worked so closely together in history. Soldiers of both countries regularly study and practice the use of the modern equipment. We are proud to work with Poland in all these actions. Together, we are strengthening NATO and strengthening transatlantic security for the coming decades,” the ambassador said.
The construction of the military should be completed in April 2024.
Ukraine and Poland plan to set up a joint defense enterprise to manufacture weapons and military equipment.
