Ukrainian embassy says first bilingual alphabet for refugee children presented in Riga

The alphabet should help Ukrainian children learn Latvian and prepare for the school year in Latvian-language schools.

The first bilingual Ukrainian-Latvian alphabet for Ukrainian children in Latvia was presented at the Riga Social and Cultural Center for Ukrainians.

The Press Service of the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia informed about it.

The First Lady of Latvia, Andra Levite, and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia, Oleksandr Mishchenko, presented the book.

"This alphabet is a gift to Ukrainian preschoolers and young schoolchiçdren who were forced to leave their homes due to the russian war against Ukraine and came to Latvia. With the support of the Latvian charity fund Ziedot.lv. Arctic Paper Baltic States and Jelgava Printing House published 4,000 copies of the book, under the patronage of the First Lady of Latvia Andre Levite," - told in the embassy.

This alphabet should help Ukrainian children learn Latvian by integrating into the new environment and prepare them for the school year in Latvian-language schools.

Riga Ukrainian School and Kindergarten took in 128 students and seven children accordingly; they also gave a job to 7 refugee teachers.

In April, the Ukrainian House in Tukums was opened in Latvia; it is a support center for temporarily displaced persons from Ukraine, organized by the leader of the local Tukums volunteer movement, Judite Dobele.
