Turkey expresses readiness to continue providing a platform for negotiations between Ukraine and russia. But we do not talk about concrete steps to resume Turkey-mediated talks. Ukraine's immediate condition is the withdrawal of russian troops. Then the negotiations have a chance of success and may end with the signing of a peace document.
This was reported at a briefing by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar, LB correspondent reports.
«Turkey is the only country in the world that has managed to bring two sides of the conflict: the aggressor - russia and the victim - Ukraine at the negotiating table. Generally, some progress has been made since the late March meeting in Istanbul. We had serious achievements, which we were ready to continue working on for signing. But, as always, we are right not to trust russia. And we urge other partners not to trust russia because russia has, in fact, wasted all our achievements by launching another offensive instead of continuing the dialogue», he said.
The ambassador stressed that Turkey does not stop trying to resume dialogue between the aggressor and Ukraine.
«They are ready to provide platforms for these talks. Today's meeting also aimed to find common ground for the continuation of these talks. What has been stated publicly speaks of the focus on communication between the parties and is the readiness for a possible resumption of negotiations. Turkey will facilitate this. But we do not talk about concrete steps yet. Because the conditions of the parties must be clear. Our immediate condition is the withdrawal of russian troops. Such negotiations have a chance of success and may culminate in the signing of a peace document. Another theory: peace in exchange for our territories does not work for us. And the Turkish side understands this very well. Although it is now trying to clarify positions of the russian side to resume this dialogue».
The head of the Ukrainian delegation on negotiations with russia, Davyd Arahamiya, said that negotiations with russia will continue after Ukraine's position is strengthened by modern weapons provided by Western partners.
