Oleksandr Nakonechnyy, head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) directorate in Kirovohrad Region, has been found dead in Kropyvnytskyy, the local news website Grechka has reported.
"The SBU and the SBI (State Bureau of Investigation) are investigating all the circumstances of the death of the head of the SBU directorate in Kirovohrad Region. After the information will be collected in full and analysed, we will inform the public. We express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Oleksandr Semenovych," SBU spokesperson Yuliya Tkach told reporters.
Andriy Lavrus, a member of the Kropyvnytskyy district council, put forward his own version on Telegram.
"According to media reports, the head of the SBU directorate in Kirovohrad Region, Nakonechnyy, committed suicide. Sources in the law-enforcement agencies confirmed the information and gave details. According to the preliminary version, the colonel was at his place of residence and fired one shot to the head from a pistol. He died of the gunshot wound," he said.
Nakonechnyy was appointed head of the SBU directorate in Kirovohrad Region in January 2021. Before his appointment to Kirovohrad Region, he worked in the counterintelligence department for two years and in the anti-corruption and organized crime unit of the SBU headquarters in Kyiv for over 10 years. He had the rank of lieutenant colonel.
