Russia should not be designated a state sponsor of terrorism - U.S. President said on 5 September (Reuters).

The publication notes that this is the label Ukraine has pushed while Moscow has warned it would rupture U.S.-Russian ties.

Asked if Russia should be designated a state sponsor of terrorism, Biden told reporters at the White House: “No.”

Politico wrote that the US State Department has made it clear to Congress that it is seriously concerned that the russian federation may be recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism. In particular, officials fear that adding russia to the list of sponsors of terrorism could jeopardize the agreement on allowing grain ships to leave Ukrainian ports.

US Senators Richard Blumenthal and Lindsey Graham called on the administration of President Joe Biden to recognize russia as a state sponsor of terrorism right now.

On 27 July the US Senate unanimously approved a non-binding resolution urging US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to include russia on the list of sponsors of terrorism.
