The Pope's envoy to Ukraine, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, together with two bishops, one Catholic and one Protestant, and accompanied by a soldier, today loaded up his aid van and drove to where "apart from the soldiers, no-one enters any more" due to active hostilities, ANSA has reported.

At one of the planned stops, the group was caught up in gunfire and the cardinal, along with the others, had to get to safety.

"For the first time in my life, I didn't know where to run to... because it is not enough to run, you have to know where," he told Vatican media speaking from Zaporizhzhya.

The cardinal is fine.
