Ukraine is helping the population of African countries to overcome food security challenges by allocating 50,000 tonnes of wheat as humanitarian aid to support Ethiopia and Somalia.
"Ukraine's role as one of the guarantors of global food security and a reliable exporter of grain is undeniable, and our actions testify to Ukraine's commitment to global obligations," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
The statement emphasizes that the main cause of the global food crisis is Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine. Russia turns food into a weapon against the most vulnerable countries. Ukraine expressed support for the UN World Food Programme, which organizes the delivery of grain and its further distribution in the areas suffering from hunger.
France and Germany, for their part, joined the Ukrainian initiative and covered the costs related to the humanitarian cargo delivery.
