The Russian army carried out another missile attack on Zaporizhzhya in the early hours of 9 October. Twelve missiles were fired with the help of tactical aviation, the Zaporizhzhya regional military administration has said.

A high-rise apartment block in the city centre was ruined.

According to governor Oleksandr Starukh, 12 people were considered dead as of 08.39 a.m. although the city council said at 5.58 a.m. that there were 17.

At least 49 more were injured, including six children. Eight people were rescued from the debris. Search and rescue efforts are underway.

Five more private houses were ruined and 40 damaged. Infrastructure facilities and dozens of cars were also damaged.

"Rescuers, doctors, all relevant services are working at the site of the tragedy. People are already being provided with all the necessary assistance. The city of Zaporizhzhya has become the object of massive terror by the occupier," Starukh said in a statement.

The city council added that an entire section of the building was destroyed.

According to the State Emergency Service, the first to eighth floors of the high-rise building were destroyed.
