The UK will provide Ukraine with missiles for air defence systems that can shoot down enemy cruise missiles - British Defenсe Secretary Ben Wallace said ahead of a NATO meeting in Brussels on Thursday, 13 October, Reuters reports.
This is the British reaction to the massive shelling of Ukrainian cities this week.
The advanced medium-range air-to-air missile (AMRAAM), which will be provided in the coming weeks, could be used with NASAMS air defence systems pledged by the United States.
The British will also provide hundreds of missiles for other types of air defence, additional drones and 18 howitzers.
"Russia's latest indiscriminate strikes on civilian areas in Ukraine warrant further support to those seeking to defend their nation. So today I have authorised the supply of AMRAAM anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine," the UK Defence Secretary said.
