Many people around the world will die of hunger if the procedure of passing the control of dry cargoes with Ukrainian grain in the Black Sea is not accelerated, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has said at the Congress of European Socialists in Berlin.

"Right now, at this moment, 100 ships are in the Black Sea, heading to the Bosporus and carrying more than 2 million tonnes of grain. They are waiting to pass the control. We must, including with the help of the UN secretary general, do everything to speed up the procedure, otherwise it may be too late for people who will die of hunger. This is a problem: 20 million tonnes of grain are blocked in Ukraine by Russians," Borrell noted.

He noted that it is necessary to fight the claims that the alleged famine is the result of European sanctions.

"This is an incredible lie! It has nothing to do with sanctions, it is because Russia blocks food exports from Ukraine," Borrell concluded.
