The Estonian Parliament (Riigikogu) declared Russia a state-sponsor of terrorism.

The deputies by 88 votes (out of a total of 101) adopted a document condemning the annexation of the territory of Ukraine and declaring the Russian regime terrorist, the website of the Riigikogu informs.

"The truth can never be achieved through wrongdoing. Putin's regime, threatening with nuclear weapons, has made Russia the biggest threat to peace in Europe and around the world," the statement reads.

It states that the Parliament "declares the Russian regime a terrorist one, and the Russian Federation - a state sponsor of terrorism". Estonian MPs urged the international community to adopt similar declarations.

During the presentation of the document, one of the Estonian MPs held up a photo of Oksana Leontieva, a pediatric hematologist who was killed by a Russian strike last week. The woman was on her way to work when an enemy missile hit the road.

The Estonian parliament began preparing a legislative decision to recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism on October 10, after the strikes in the centre of Kyiv, which killed and injured civilians.

Ukraine has long been calling on the world to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. This decision will strengthen sanctions against this country, and it also provides for restrictive measures against all countries that will cooperate with it. The list of such states currently includes Iran, DPRK, Cuba, and Syria.
