Ukrainian businessman, former MP, owner of the Ferrexpo group of companies Kostyantyn Zhevago was detained in French Courchevel, the State Bureau of Investigation's communications adviser Tetyana Sapyan said during a telethon. Documents for his extradition are currently being prepared.
"I want to inform the citizens of Ukraine that the State Bureau of Investigation in close cooperation with the Prosecutor General's Office managed to detain Kostyantyn Zhevago in Courchevel. You know that he is involved in several criminal investigations," Sapyan said.
The press service of the Prosecutor General's Office added that the businessman is suspected of organizing the misappropriation of a commercial bank's property and further legalization of the obtained funds in especially large amounts (Part 3 of Article 27, Part 5 of Article 191, Part 3 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Zhevago's companies are suspected of tax evasion for UAH 94.6 million.
Zhevago disappeared on 24 September 2019. In 2015, businessman Kostyantyn Zhevago, who at that time was the owner of the Finance and Credit Bank, guaranteed several loan agreements to the National Bank. He did not fulfil the guarantee agreements, and in December 2015, the National Bank went to court. The court proceedings dragged on for several years.
Zhevago has been on the wanted list since October 2019. He is one of the richest people in Ukraine. According to Forbes, his wealth was estimated at about 2.4 billion dollars.
