The Russian Defence Ministry called the night missile strike on Kramatorsk a "revenge operation" for the strike on the compound of the Russian military in Makiyivka on New Year's Eve. At the same time, the Ukrainian military called the Russian statement an information operation.

The statement of the Russian Defence Ministry was denied by the spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Cherevatyy, in a comment to Suspilne.

"This information is as true as the statement that they destroyed all our HIMARS. This is an information operation of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation in response to the successful actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to destroy their large clusters of personnel, their warehouses, logistics with our high-precision destruction systems. They do not have such an opportunity," Cherevatyy said.

Earlier, the Russian Defence Ministry said that in response to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' strike on Makiyivka on New Year's Eve, the command of the joint group of Russian troops implemented a "revenge operation". They claim that intelligence means revealed and reliably confirmed the points of temporary deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kramatorsk: in dormitory № 28 there were allegedly more than 700 Ukrainian soldiers and in dormitory № 47 more than 600.

The Russian Defence Ministry claims that more than 600 Ukrainian servicemen were allegedly killed as a result of a "massive missile strike" on these facilities.
