The State Emergency Service reports that on 29 January, at around 23:00, the central part of Kharkiv was again attacked by a Russian missile (preliminary S300). It hit a four-story residential building. The explosion partially destroyed its roof and top floor. A fire broke out.
An elderly woman died. Her husband was rescued by emergency workers. He and two other residents were injured.
"At the time of the arrival of the State Emergency Service units, the destroyed roof of the house was burning over an area of about 450 square metres. Firefighters had to dismantle the rubble to get to the fire. About 40 firefighters are working at the scene. At 23:38, the fire was localized, and at 03:18 it was completely eliminated," the rescuers said.
Six fire trucks, two ladder trucks, a first aid vehicle and a special rescue vehicle were sent to the scene.
On Sunday, 29 January, around 23:00, the Russian military began shelling Kharkiv and Kharkiv Region.
"Attention! Residents of Kharkiv and the region, the occupiers are striking! Stay in the shelters," said the Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Sinehubov.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov clarified that it was the Kyiv district of the city that came under attack by the Russians.
"A hit to a residential building. There is a fire in the building. There is heavy damage. According to information that needs to be confirmed, there are victims," he said.
Updated at 23:19. According to Synehubov, an enemy missile hit a residential building in the downtown of Kharkiv.
Updated at 00:07. As a result of Russian shelling, the fourth floor of one of the entrances was completely destroyed. There are wounded, the Ukrainian Armed Forces report.
Oleh Synehubov notes that as of now, it is known that three people have been injured as a result of the attack. Rescue operations are ongoing.
