On Wednesday, 1 February, the Bulgarian parliament recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, Bulgarian News Agency reports.

The National Assembly decided to commemorate the victims of the Holodomor every last Saturday in November. The proposal was unanimously supported by the majority of the Bulgarian parliament.

On Twitter, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Bulgaria for recognizing the Holodomor as genocide of Ukrainians.

"I am grateful to the Bulgarian parliament for recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. This step memorializes the millions of victims of the Holodomor and restores historical justice. Ukraine will always remember Bulgaria's gesture of solidarity," he wrote.

Bulgaria massively supported Kyiv with ammunition and diesel fuel in the first months of the full-scale war with Russia.
