The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said on the eve of the Ukraine-EU summit in Kyiv, that he does not rule out that Ukraine may still receive the fighter jets, despite the current cautious position of some Western countries, including Germany and the United States, Deutsche Welle reports. At the same time, he said that the delivery of fighter jets is not on the agenda now, El Pais reports.

Borrell noted that the supply of battle tanks was also initially a controversial issue, but eventually, a consensus was reached.

He also recalled that fears of a possible escalation in the war were expressed before each new stage of supplying Kyiv with Western weapons.

Several European politicians, including Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, have called for providing Western combat aircraft to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and U.S. President Joe Biden are taking a more cautious stance and are in no hurry to support the idea of such supplies.

In the United States, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for supplying Ukraine with fighter jets as soon as possible.
