Ursula von der Leyen, Josep Borrell arrive in Kyiv

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Chief Diplomat Josep Borrell have arrived in Kyiv. Tomorrow they will participate in the Ukraine-EU summit.

“Good to be back in Kyiv, my 4th time since Russia’s invasion,” von der Leyen wrote on Twitter.

She added that she came to deepen further support and cooperation.

Borrell, in turn, wrote that he came to convey the strongest message of support to all Ukrainians defending their country.

On Thursday, the main members of the European Commission will meet with their counterparts in the Ukrainian government. On Friday, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel will meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

During the meetings and the summit, the allies will discuss sending even more weapons and money to Ukraine, expanding access for Ukrainian goods to the EU market, helping Ukraine with its energy needs, adopting new sanctions against Russia, prosecuting the Kremlin for the war, and roaming zones for Ukrainian operators.

On 3 February, the 24th Ukraine-EU summit will take place. This event will be the first summit since Ukraine has become a candidate member of the European Union.
