The Russian Federation has already launched a major new offensive in Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a briefing in Brussels on Monday, 13 February, The Guardian reports.
“We see them (Russians - ed.) sending more troops, more weapons. We are seeing the start already,” Stoltenberg said.
According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin is sending "thousands and thousands more troops," accepting "a very high rate of casualties" but putting pressure on Ukrainians.
“What Russia lacks in quality, they try to compensate in quantity,” Stoltenberg noted, and called on Western countries to quickly supply Ukraine with as many weapons and ammunition as possible.
The NATO Secretary General emphasized that he sees "no sign whatsoever" that Putin is "preparing for peace."
"We see that Putin and Russia still want to control Ukraine," he said.
Stoltenberg also expects that the meeting of the Consultative Group on Ukraine's Defence will consider the issue of possible aircraft supplies.
