At a meeting on 19 May, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Semen Kryvonos as head of the State Inspectorate for Architecture and Urban Planning.

At an extraordinary session, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Semen Kryvonos as director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

The government made the decision on 6 March.

"Semen Kryvonos has just been appointed head of the Bureau at an extraordinary session. This process was preceded by a transparent competition, following which the commission, which included international partners, identified three candidates for the position of NABU director. With the appointment of the NABU director, we also have a fully formed and independent anti-corruption infrastructure," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Telegram.

According to him, Ukraine has now fulfilled all seven of the EU's recommendations that were set when it was granted candidate status, which allows the country to start accession negotiations this year.

Kryvonos was born on 16 January 1983 in Mariupol.

In 2005, he graduated from the National Agrarian University with a degree in Agronomy. In 2007, he graduated from the National Academy for Public Administration under the President of Ukraine with a degree in Public Administration. In 2010, he graduated from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences with a degree in Law.

From 2011 to 2015, he worked in the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Justice in Odesa and Kyiv regions.

From 2015 to 2016, he was the First Deputy Head of the Odesa Customs of the State Fiscal Service. In 2018, he received a certificate of the right to practice law. He practised law individually and as a Pasika & Partners law firm member.

From 2020 to 2021, he was the Chairman of the Simple Solutions and Results NGO Office. Since May 2021, he has served as the Head of the State Inspectorate of Architecture and Urban Development of Ukraine.

At the first stage of the application process, 78 applications were received, processed for compliance with the competition requirements, and 74 candidates were admitted to the next stage. The second stage of testing consisted of a series of tests, including knowledge of the law, general abilities and skills, assessment of personal competencies, and a practical task. Based on the results of all tests and practical tasks, 21 candidates remained in the third stage.

The final stage included interviews for integrity and professional competence. On 4 March, the selection committee for the National Anti-Corruption Bureau director position identified three main candidates.

The previous director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, Artem Sytnyk, was appointed on 16 April 2015. On 16 April 2022, his term of office expired, and the NABU was temporarily headed by his first deputy, Hizo Uhlava.
