Ukraine may replace conscription with special military training courses, Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said in an interview with LIGA.net.
According to him, after the victory, Ukraine needs to prepare for changes in the legal framework and in the behavioural culture in the security and defence sector.
"Unfortunately, a physically hostile country that is our neighbour will not disappear into outer space. Even with all the inventions of Elon Musk. And it will dream of revenge. Therefore, the only guarantee of the non-recurrence of such an invasion is a powerful security and defence sector, as well as a clear concept of a reserve army. This is how Switzerland lives," Reznikov said.
He suggested that conscription would become unnecessary in Ukraine and would be replaced by special military training.
"We may not need conscription anymore. But every young person at the age of 18 begins to take special training courses: medicine, shooting, trenches, coordination. Then they study whatever they want, but once a year they take a month-long course in their specialization. If you want to be a machine gunner, grow as a machine gunner. If you want to be a drone operator, go for it," Reznikov said.
Reznikov claims that the mobilization plan announced since the introduction of martial law has not been completed.
