Russia's massive missile attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure, in particular on the Zaporizhzhya NPP, pose a high risk of a nuclear incident and pose a danger to the European continent, EU High Representative Josep Borrell has tweeted.
He emphasized that Russia does not stop its barbaric attacks and has once again struck at Ukraine's critical infrastructure.
"At night and during our meeting, more than 80 missiles and drones were launched by the Russian Federation into Ukraine. The attack took place in the middle of the night and across the country, killing innocent civilians and causing serious damage. In particular, the Zaporizhzhya NPP was disconnected from the Ukrainian power grid as a result of the attack, which significantly increased the risk of a nuclear incident," Borrell said at a press conference in Stockholm following an informal meeting of EU development ministers.
He added that Russia's actions have led to a serious violation of nuclear safety.
At about 3:53 am on 9 March, the last line linking the occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP to the Ukrainian power grid was cut off as a result of Russian missile strikes. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called on the organization's staff to commit to protecting the nuclear safety of the plant.
Around 16:00, Ukrenergo specialists restored power supply to the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
