Belgium has recognised the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Twitter.

He called the decision a "deeply symbolic step".

"A historic vote in the Belgian House of Representatives: yet another state has recognised the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. I thank Belgium for this important decision for every Ukrainian, for this deeply symbolic step," the President wrote.

On 1 February, the Bulgarian Parliament recognised the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

Earlier, in December last year, the European Parliament recognised the Holodomor as genocide of Ukrainians.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stressed that it would continue to work towards the official recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.
