Maj-Gen Viktor Nikolyuk has been appointed Ground Troops Training Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Defence Ministry's press service reports.
Nikolyuk used to head the Operational Command (OC) North. Brig-Gen Dmytro Krasylnykov is now the new commander of the sector.
According to Nikolyuk, he handed over the battle flag of the OC North to Krasylnykov and proceeded to take up his new position.
"I am grateful to all the officers, sergeants and soldiers with whom I defended Chernihiv and Bakhmut. We will continue to work for our common goal - our joint victory," said the military leader.
As the commander of the OC North, Nikolyuk led the defence of Chernihiv Region during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. On 10 March 2022, Nikolyuk was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Golden Star Order.
