The shooting of Ukrainian prisoner Oleksandr Matsiyevskyy by Russians is not an isolated incident, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets has said.

"The execution by the Russian military of Ukrainian prisoner Oleksandr Matsiyevskyy after the phrase 'Glory to Ukraine' is, unfortunately, not an isolated case in this horrific war of aggression. We have evidence of other executions of our unarmed prisoners of war by the Russian occupiers. This was reported by our sources in the law enforcement agencies and later published in the media," the statement said.

The Russians execute openly and cynically. They do so with the consent of their commanders and knowing for sure that they will not be punished. We are once again convinced that the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law do not exist for Russia. The occupiers systematically commit war crimes, violating the laws and customs of war.

Dmytro Lubinets also said that he informs the international community about each such crime, because bringing the Russian Federation to justice is not only the goal but also the duty of the entire civilised world.

As of 22 February, at least 963 civilian hostages were held by the Russians. The Ministry of Reintegration is also auditing the lists of civilian hostages.
