On the morning of 22 March, the Russian army shelled Zaporizhzhya. The occupiers opened fire on residential buildings and the island of Khortytsya, the Head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, said in a Telegram message.
Khortytsya is the largest island on the Dnipro River. It is a unique natural and historical complex.
UPDATE 13:42. At least 18 people were injured in the shelling of Zaporizhzhya. The enemy fired at two nine-storey buildings.
"At present, we know about 18 injured (including two children aged 7 and 9). 11 adults have been hospitalised (four of them in serious condition, seven in moderate condition). Another five people received medical assistance at the place of arrival. The children are being taken to medical facilities. Information on the extent of the destruction is being clarified," said Anatoliy Kurtev, Secretary of the City Council.

"Zaporizhzhya. Right now, a Russian missile hit a multi-storey building. Russia is shelling the city with animalistic cruelty. They hit residential areas where ordinary people and children live. The terrorist country seeks to destroy our cities, our state, our people," the President said.
He said this should not be "just another day" in Ukraine, or anywhere else in Europe or the world. We need more unity and determination from the international community to defeat Russian terror and protect lives.
Yesterday, the occupiers shelled civilian infrastructure near the settlements of Zaporizhzhya, Novoivanivka, Charivne, Kamyanske, Hulyaypole, Novodanylivka, Hulyaypilske, Novoandriyivka, Chervone, Olhove, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, Preobrazhenka, Bilohirya, Shcherbaky, Prymorske, Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky. There were 14 reports of the destruction of houses (apartments) and infrastructure.
