Since 22 March, pilgrims from all over the world have been coming to the city of Uman, Cherkasy Region, to celebrate the birthday of Rabbi Nachman. The regional police said they are ready to ensure public order and public safety in the area of religious events.
"From today, a combined detachment formed of employees of various services is working in Uman, in particular the dialogue police, members of a special police battalion, dog experts, explosives experts and police officers of the Uman district police department," the police said.
Law enforcers' main tasks are to prevent criminal and administrative offences, ensure public order in places where Hasidic pilgrims are staying and clustering.
The police recalled that all restrictions related to martial law in force in Ukraine apply to the pilgrims. These include document checks at checkpoints and a curfew that is in effect from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
It is also noted that law enforcement officers are on duty around the clock in an enhanced composition. Foot patrols are in the streets where the pilgrims' stay.
