The United Kingdom will purchase Archer artillery from Sweden, which allows it to transfer British AS90 self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine, according to a statement by the British Ministry of Defence and Swedish Defence Minister Paul Johnson.
“The UK today also announced a contract of nearly £5 million to replenish munitions granted to Ukraine with Saab-produced Carl-Gustaf M4 recoilless rifles,” the Ministry of Defence added.
Pal Johnson said that he and his British counterpart Ben Wallace had signed an agreement to increase military support for Ukraine. According to the agreement, Britain will buy Archer from Sweden to fill the gaps in the artillery it is donating to the Ukrainians.
Ukrainian artillerymen are already completing training with the 155mm AS90 howitzers provided by the UK. The AS90 provides armoured protection for the crew and, at the same time, allows them to hit targets at a great distance.
