Odesa mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov has been released from the pre-trial detention centre, according to Suspilne TV.
He was released on bail of UAH 13 million paid by Dmytro Tantsyura, a deputy from Trukhanov's Trust the Acts party faction.
According to the Anticorruption Action Centre, the mayor of Odesa must hand in his foreign passports. He will also wear an electronic bracelet.
The Centre added that this is not the first time Trukhanov has paid bail. For example, in November 2021, the High Anticorruption Court granted him a UAH 30 million bail in the so-called Halanternyk-Trukhanov criminal organisation case. The head of Odesa was a suspect in the case.
The NABU and the SAPO suspected the mayor of Odesa and several other local officials of embezzling UAH 185 million from the city budget: the buildings of the Krayan plant were purchased for the city hall at an inflated cost. Later, the amount of the transaction was halved.
