The European Union is ready to provide Ukraine with 1 million artillery shells to fight back Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said at a briefing with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
"Every day Ukraine demonstrates the effectiveness of our defence against Russian aggression. Every downed terrorist missile, every success of our soldiers in repelling Russian assaults is proof that we can defeat this aggressor," he said.
Zelenskyy said it was important that Ukraine's capabilities were proportional to those of Russia.
"In this context, today I thanked Von der Leyen for the EU's readiness to provide Ukraine with much-needed ammunition," the president said.
He also noted that, among other things, he had discussed with Von der Leyen the speed of procurement and delivery of these ammunition, as they are needed at the frontline.
